Ansys simulation software was used by the four out of the top six F1 racing teams in the 2013 season; in particular the software was used by Infiniti Red Bull Racing which won its fourth consecutive constructor’s championship.
Ansys simulation software, particularly its solutions for computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and high performance computing (HPC), are used by teams such as Infiniti Red Bull Racing to speed up development and optimise their racing cars. These solutions are used in addition to traditional testing methods such as wind-tunnel testing, to enable the engineers to optimise the design of vehicles, which are subject to increasingly strict guidelines.
‘Compressed development timelines and strict design and testing regulations often force design engineers to work in overdrive. Without simulation to validate and optimise each component in race cars, teams risk overlooking possible design advantages as they try to keep pace,’ commented Sandeep Sovani, Ansys manager of automotive strategy.
Nathan Sykes, CFD and FEA tools team Leader at Infiniti Red Bull Racing, said: ‘We are confident that the speed and accuracy from ANSYS simulation solutions ultimately translates to victories on the track, while helping us remain compliant with tight racing regulations.’
