HECToR, the UK supercomputer based in Edinburgh, is now part of the EU-funded Deisa infrastructure, a pan-European network of national supercomputers linked together using a dedicated 10,000Mb fibre optic connection.
This network connection, which is currently being installed, will support all the Deisa services including a global GPFS filesystem for sharing data with other machines. Through Deisa, a portion of HECToR is made available for use by world-leading research groups across Europe. By the same mechanism, UK scientists can access the other European supercomputers for their own research.
