From 2010, PRACE, the Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe, will be based in headquarters in Lisbon, Portugal, as a further step towards the organisation's aim of creating a permanent pan-European HPC research infrastructure.
The PRACE Management Board unanimously selected Portugal as headquarters location for an initial period of 12 to 18 months. The final decision will be the mandate of the Council of the PRACE legal entity once it is established.
Pedro Alberto from University of Coimbra, the Portuguese partner in PRACE, said: 'We are delighted that PRACE has chosen Lisbon. This is another strong sign of the truly pan-European nature of PRACE, showing that all participating countries, including those not hosting tier-0 centres, have an important role to play in PRACE.'
