Thermo Fisher Scientific opens Bioprocess Design Center in Shanghai

Thermo Fisher Scientific, the world leader in serving science, today opened its first Bioprocess Design Center in Shanghai, China. The new centre is part of a strategy to establish a centre of excellence where Thermo Fisher scientists can connect and collaborate with biologic developers to design optimal bioprocessing solutions.

The 2,700-square-meter facility will house the latest in bioprocessing analytical technologies and equipment in an environment suitable for end-to-end process development. Thermo Fisher scientists and engineers will be able to work with customers to optimize their processes and support the technical transfer of those processes back to the customer's site. In addition, the center offers a training program for local customers designed to improve performance and reduce costs across bioprocessing operations.

'The rate at which biologic medicines are developed and manufactured in China continues to accelerate. The local biotech industry is developing biosimilar medicines, as well as innovative medicines like cell and gene therapies,' said Tony Acciarito, president, Thermo Fisher Scientific China. 'Our investment demonstrates our commitment to enable customers to achieve the growth aspirations for biotechnology as outlined in China's 13th Five -Year Plan.'

The breadth of Thermo Fisher's bioprocessing capabilities will be available within the Shanghai center—from leading cell culture technologies like media and single-use bioreactors to innovative purification platforms for a wide range of biologic molecules. The center will be populated with highly trained process scientists and engineers, bringing the global capabilities and experience of Thermo Fisher to more customers in China.
