Siemens has recently announced a new version of its Solid Edge software (Solid Edge ST7) which includes new functionality aimed at accelerating the product design process. The software includes enhancements to the 3D Modelling and image rendering that can improve certain tasks to be performed up to five times faster than the previous version.
Additional efficiency is achieved through improvements made to the design management and the Solid Edge user interface. In conjunction with the release of Solid Edge ST7, Siemens’ product lifecycle management (PLM) business is also expanding its portfolio of in-house and third party apps that extend the Solid Edge software beyond its core design capabilities. These will provide solutions for standard parts libraries, simulation, manufacturing, and mobile device support.
Luxion’s KeyShot technology has been implemented to provide new built-in rendering capabilities for Solid Edge ST7. This allows users to quickly and easily create photorealistic images and animations from within the modelling environment.
In addition, new 3D Sketch functionality in Solid Edge ST7 improves efficiency with various modelling scenarios, allowing designers to complete their design processes up to two times faster. User interface enhancements provide Solid Edge ST7 with the most intuitive operating environment to date. A new start page, focused learning paths, and expanded visual tool tips simplify the learning curve for new users and increase efficiency for expert users.
Complementing the enhancements in Solid Edge ST7 is an expanded family of new apps. These provide wider capabilities for design, manufacturing and collaboration that speed the entire product development process. There are now over 500 Solid Edge apps available to help increase customer value.
