Storage specialist, Promise Technology has boosted its VessRaid storage system to offer users 160TB of data capacity. The upgraded storage system uses an industry standard iSCSI connection to put many terabytes of storage space at its customers' disposal, with ease-of-use as a high priority.
The VessRaid can be used in any deployment that requires large amounts of storage space – for example, large data archiving projects and online companies will also benefit. The 160TB capacity comes from 16 HDD, each with a capacity of 2TB as well as four 32TB VessJBOD expansion units connected via a quad 1Gb/s iSCI interface – an aggregated 4Gb/s link.
VessRaid is particularly appropriate as online backup in large virtualisation projects. The product has been certified for use in both Hyper-V and VMware server virtualisation environments. The storage solution also offers the ability to conserve power by using the power scheduler operation to optimise system power effectiveness and energy efficiency. This allows the system to do a disk-to-disk backup or restore operation on a user-scheduled basis then returns to standby mode when backup is finished, cutting energy costs by up to 70 per cent.
Other features of VessRaid include options of eight, 12 or 16 SAS/SATA drive bays, web-based management via Ethernet; power scheduler operation and Wake-on-LAN support; PerfectRaid and Predictive Data Migration technology for robust error handling and data rebuilding and systems in 2U and 3U form factors – the size of the products make them ideal for building into small IT racks.
