NextComputing has added VMWare ESXi 3.5 and VirtualBox to its list of OS options on the company's NextDimension flextops, Vigor rugged portables, and NextServer rackmount computers.
VMware ESXi 3.5 is offered on systems with Quad Core Intel Xeon processors and VirtualBox on any model and configuration.
VMware ESXi 3.5 is the foundation for the dynamic, self-optimising IT infrastructure. VMware ESX is a robust, production-proven virtualisation layer that abstracts processor, memory, storage, and networking resources into multiple virtual machines. It delivers the highest levels of performance, scalability, and robustness required for enterprise IT environments. VMware ESXi 3.5 offers all the same functionality, but with a thin 32-MB footprint designed for server integration. The thin architecture provides unparalleled security and reliability, while integration as server firmware makes deployment fast and easy.
VirtualBox is a general-purpose full virtualiser for x86 hardware. It is a professional-quality virtualisation solution that is also open source software. Features of VirtualBox include an extremely modular design with well-defined internal programming interfaces and a client/server design, virtual machine descriptions in XML, guest additions for Windows and Linux, shared folders, virtual USB controllers, remote desktop protocol, and USB over RDP.
