SGI has announced full and immediate support of the Intel Xeon processor 5600 series across its entire scale-out server lineup, including Altix ICE HPC clusters, CloudRack and Rackable scale-out servers, SGI InfiniteStorage servers, the Octane III personal supercomputer and the newly announced Origin 400 workgroup blade solution. SGI’s server solutions boast increased performance, core density and power efficiency by up to 60 per cent.
SGI servers powered by the new Intel Xeon processor 5600 series provide up to 50 per cent higher core density than previous generations of SGI systems based on Intel processors, with up to 24 cores per rack U. Systems will further benefit from up to 40 per cent higher performance per Watt and up to a 60 per cent increase in overall raw performance. The Intel Xeon processor 5600 series allows scalability up to 1,056 cores in a single rack with Rackable back-to-back mounted, half-depth servers.
